UP Board: Class 12 result registers decline by over 9%
Prayagraj: Compared to last year (2022), there has been a decline of 9.81% in terms of students passing in class 12 in the exams conducted by UP Secondary Education Board, results of which were announced on Tuesday. Among several reasons, Board officials maintain that perhaps it is because of the Covid-19 outbreak which was witnessed in the state two years back.
Because of the pandemic, the students who appeared in the class 12 examination this year were actually those who were promoted to their next class two years ago in 2021 without giving their high school examination. Since the government had decided to promote all the students to their next class as it was not possible to conduct the examination due to the circumstances arising out of the Corona outbreak, it was only this year that these students faced the challenge of appearing in their first board exams.
Unable to conduct the exams, the officials of the board at that time had granted promotion to the students of class 10 in 2021 on the basis of marks obtained in the annual written examination of class 9 and pre-board examination of class 10.
In 2021, 29,96,031 students were registered in high school. Out of these, 29,82,055 (99.53 %) were declared passed. Never in the 100-year history of UP Board had such a large number of students been successful in high school.
However, having skipped the board exam in class 10 seems to have affected these students in their class 12 exams as the pass percentage among them fell by 9.81% as compared to 2022 results. This is in sharp contrast to the result of high school exams which has witnessed an increase in pass percentage in 2023 as compared to last year, board officials shared.
