542 fresh Cov infections in state, 1 death

Bhubaneswar: The state’s Covid tally on Wednesday went up significantly with 542 new infections taking the number of active cases to 3,270. The health department reported one Covid death on Wednesday. This is the fourth fatality in the current surge.
The testing of samples also crossed the 7,000 mark (7,571) across the state. More tests will be conducted in the coming days, health officials said. Despite a little surge, the department said there is no need to panic as hospitalisation is very low. There has been no severe manifestation of the infection in normal patients (people other than ones having co-morbid conditions). The government reported that 357 patients have recovered on Wednesday.
Sanghamitra Pati, director, Regional Medical Research Centre, said more samples of Covid-positive persons will be sent for genome sequencing to ascertain if there is other sub-variants of Omicron involved in the current surge. “So far we know there is no serious manifestations of the infection,” she said.
