Man on the run after ‘raping’ 12-yr-old niece

Ludhiana: Police on Wednesday booked a man for allegedly raping his 12-year-old niece. The accused allegedly violated the girl when rest of the family had gone to their hometown in Uttar Pradesh.
The family returned to Ludhiana on Tuesday when the girl narrated the incident, following which a police complaint was lodged.
In her statement to the police, the girl’s mother said on April 9, she along with her husband and children had gone to their hometown in Uttar Pradesh, while her eldest daughter and the 23-year-old accused who is younger brother of her husband were at home. When they returned on Tuesday, her daughter told them on April 14 evening, the accused committed rape after overpowering her. The accused escaped from the house after that and did not return.
ASI Barinderjit Singh, investigating officer, said a case under Sections 376 (rape) of the IPC and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act has been registered against the accused.
