PATNA: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan on Wednesday opposed the Nitish Kumar government's decision of amending the Bihar Prison Manual to "facilitate" the release of don-turned-politician Anand Mohan and 26 others from jail. He asked the CM to reconsider his decision.
Anand served life term for the 1994 murder of the then Gopalganj DM G Krishnaiah, an IAS officer. "The way law is being tweaked to serve political purposes is very bad. Law is being framed either to implicate someone or acquit someone. We are strongly against the government's decision (to release Anand from jail)," Chirag told the media in Gaya on Wednesday.
Describing the state government as "anti-Dalit", Chirag said the incident amply highlights the thinking of the government. "The fact is that murder happened, hasn't it? After that, by altering the law to release someone this way...Just imagine, what would have happened to the family who lost its member?" asked Chirag.
Earlier, addressing a party rally nicknamed "Chirag lao, Bihar bachao" in Gaya, the Jamui MP accused the Nitish government of dividing the society in many segments. "A government's responsibility is to carry the entire state together, but the present government has divided the society along caste and communal lines. Backward, extremely backward, Luv-Kush, Koeri-Kurmi and men-women, the government has been only involved in the politics of division," he alleged.
He also slammed the chief minister for blaming "landlocked" Bihar for industrialists' reluctance to set up industries in the state. "The fault lies with the intention of the government, not the state's geographical situation," he said.
