Infant injured in Chesapeake shooting, police say

Chesapeake police are investigating a shooting Wednesday night that left an infant injured.

Officers received a call just before 8:10 p.m. that a child had been shot.

The shooting was reported in the area of Bainbridge Boulevard and Jefferson Street, according to a news release from police.

Officers found the mother and a child, whose injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said. The vehicle they were in was damaged from gunfire.

The release did not say whether the mother was injured or if the child was taken to a hospital. The mother’s age, as well as the age and gender of the child, were unavailable.
