THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after SCERT sought government concurrence for issuing supplementary books to counter the controversial omissions in NCERT textbooks, education minister V Sivankutty sent e-mails to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday seeking the cancellation of the changes made by NCERT in textbooks.
The minister, who expressed concern over the deletion of important chapters and portions in the name of nationalization of content, said most changes, including the omission of evolution theory, appeared to be not on account of academic reasons.
Chapters on peace, development, rise of social movements were excluded from the political science text for Class XII.
The omission of Mughal empire period would lead to incomplete understanding about the Mughal period's cultural and artistic excellence, he said.
Sivankutty said the decision to exclude evolution theory from Class IX-X texts was unfortunate.
