Centre approves 157 new nursing colleges at cost of Rs 1570 crores: Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya addressed the press and said that a cost of Rs 1570 crores has been approved for the project, and added that it will be completed in the next 24 months.
New Delhi: Cabinet approved the establishment of 157 new nursing colleges which will function along with the existing institutions. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya addressed the press and said that a cost of Rs 1570 crores has been approved for the project, and added that it will be completed in the next 24 months.
Adding to the development in the medical sector, the Cabinet also approved the Policy for the Medical Devices Sector. As per the Central government, the Medical Devices Sector will grow from the present $11 Bn to $50 Bn in the next five years with the new policy.

These nursing colleges will aim to provide a quality education ensuring affordability and equitability. As per the ministry’s estimate, these 157 colleges will add about 15,700 nursing graduates every year.
The nursing colleges will be established in co-location with the existing colleges with Rs 10 crore to be spent on each project and the co-existing will help with the optimal utilisation of the resources and infrastructure available, such as the clinical facilities and labs. The step has an objective to cater to the geographical and urban-rural divide in the health sector.

The policy for Medical Devices Sector includes ‘Six Strategies’ with an Implementation Action Plan. The policy aims at quality, access, affordability and innovation in the health sector of the country.
