Young girl’s body exhumed after ‘murder’ claims

Surat: The body of a 20-year-old girl was exhumed in Kalthan village in Navsari district on Tuesday following allegations over the cause of her death. The girl’s boyfriend, who is from a different faith, had submitted an application to police on Monday alleging that she was kidnapped and murdered by her family members.
The boyfriend alleged that the girl’s family was against their relationship as they were from different faiths. In his application to the police, the man alleged that the deceased girl was forcibly taken on April 20 by her family members. He alleged that he came to know that she was murdered and buried.
During the preliminary inquiry, police found that the girl had committed suicide. They also recovered a suicide note. In the note, it was written that she was ending her life because her boyfriend refused to marry her.
Meanwhile, it was further revealed that the girl’s family did not inform the police about her death.
“A case of accidental death has been registered and the body was exhumed in the presence of a magistrate. The body has been sent to New Civil Hospital in Surat to ascertain the cause of death,” said Rushikesh Upadhyay, superintendent of police, Navsari.
