Emerging tech startup hub to come up soon
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Startup Mission is set to establish an ‘emerging technologies startup hub’ in Technopark phase IV campus. The state government has granted permission to the chief executive officer, Technopark, to transfer an extent of three acres of land in Pallipuram village in Technopark phase IV campus to Startup Mission on 30 years lease basis, renewable up to 90 years, with an annual lease rent of Rs 25,000 per acre and operation and maintenance charge of Rs 1,50,000 per acre per annum without collecting the initial down payment from Kerala Startup Mission.
The government had earlier allotted 97 acres of land in Technocity campus at Pallippuram to Tata Consultancy Services to set up a ‘state of the art training campus’. However, the project did not materialise in time due to the rapid change in training methods. Subsequently Tata Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd submitted a proposal to the government for permission to start engineering, product development and information technology services in the land.
Accordingly, the government issued orders permitting Tata Consultancy Services to use the 94 acres of land out of the total 97 acres of land allotted to them, for setting up engineering product development and information technology services in manufacturing, defence and aerospace. It was also directed to return three acres of land from the 15 acre land allotted to Tata Consultancy Services to Technopark for utilizing the land for projects related to IT/space/ defence.
Startup Mission had requested the government to allot that three acres of land to them for the ‘emerging technologies startup hub’.
