AIZAWL: With the re-arrest of Lalchawimawia (24) on Tuesday morning, three out of five jail-breakers who escaped from south Mizoram's Lunglei district jail on April 19 have so far been nabbed.
Lalchawimawia, arrested for allegedly hacking a 49-year-old woman in Lunglei on September 6, 2021 before robbing her, was held at jhum hut near Khawhri village in adjoining Hnahthial district. He was taken to Lunglei police station before being sent to the Lungei district jail on Tuesday.
Earlier, Lalbawihliana (26) and Dokapthanga (27), both arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, were detained by villagers of Mausen in Lunglei district in a motel near the village on April 20 and were handed over to the police.
Two other escapees - Haudeihchhin (25) and Vanneihthanga (38) - are yet to be arrested.
All the escaped prisoners are Myanmar nationals. Except Lalchawimawia, all of them were booked for trafficking of drugs from Myanmar.
In a jailbreak, five inmates had escaped from the Lunglei district Jail by breaking toilet bricks of Ward No. 2 on early morning of April 19.
