Congress workers lock up PWD engr over Canacona’s bad roads

Canacona: Protesting against the failure of PWD authorities to take up road repair works in Canacona following a recent fatal accident, Congress functionaries on Wednesday held the PWD assistant engineer captive by locking the main door of his office.
A few days ago, a couple travelling on a two-wheeler lost their lives in a head-on collision with an inter-city bus travelling from Karwar to Margao. Two other people were also injured in the incident.
Canacona Congress functionaries Janardhan Bhandari, Vikas Bhagat and other party members locked up the office of the assistant engineer concerned for not paying heed to their repeated requests of extending the road stretch at Karmal ghat which has turned into a death trap for motorists.
Speaking to TOI, Bhandari said that fatal accidents are a regular occurance in Canacona due to the dilapidated condition of internal roads as well as highways, that in turn paralyse vehicular traffic.
Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar demanded action against the Congress functionaries.
Meanwhile, Shristhal panch member and former sarpanch Ramu Dhilon Naik on Wednesday sat on a hunger strike in front of the Canacona deputy collector's office up to 12.30pm to highlight PWD’s lackadaisical approach to repair the roads in Shristal.
Authorities assured him that the work will be taken up by May 5.
