Telangana Transgender Welfare Board member attacked in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: In a shocking case, a board member of Telangana Transgender Welfare Board was attacked by a group of seven on Monday.
An FIR has been filed in this regard at the Rajendra Nagar police station under sections 323 and 506 of the IPC for criminal intimidation and causing hurt.
The incident allegedly occurred on Monday noon at 3pm at Vyjayanti Vasanta Mogli’s home.
The assailants are learned to have entered her courtyard and hit her with their hands and threatened her.
The board member was on her way to attend an official event organised by the Queer Trans Centre of Yugantar NGO when the incident occurred.
It is learned that among the persons involved in the attack, there were two transgender persons as well, raising concerns of it being an intra-community attack.
Vyjayanti is herself a petitioner in the ongoing Supreme Court hearings on marriage equality.
The entire incident shocked the LGBTQI+ community in the city with many taking to their social media accounts condemning the violence.
Meanwhile, police officials stated that investigations have begun.
"The complainant mentioned that the accused came in a car and we have begun investigations to track down the same with CCTV footage," said B Shwetha, investigating officer, Rajendranagar police station.
