NOIDA: A group of men travelling in a car from Noida to Sikandrabad was thrashed by workers of the Luharali toll plaza late on Monday night. One of the occupants was severely injured.
Investigation revealed the scuffle broke out following an argument over paying the toll. Five toll plaza workers were arrested. A clip of the incident was circulated on Twitter.
"Anas, a resident of Tilmandapa village in the Dankaur area of Greater Noida, was discharged after medical treatment. He along with three others was in a Maruti Baleno. At the toll plaza, an argument broke out between Anas and the workers over the plaza, which escalated to a fight," said Ashok Kumar, additional DCP, Greater Noida.
According to a senior officer at Dadri, the argument broke out after Anas refused to pay the toll tax. They claimed to live in the locality and should be exempted.
The circulated video shows a couple of toll plaza workers speaking with two men who were in the Baleno. Both groups appear to get more agitated. The car driver at one point is seen trying to hand the worker either money or a receipt, and then drive away but the argument escalated. A group of five to six men, presumably the workers, begin to beat one or two of the car passengers.
"Action has been taken against the five accused, identified as Sonu, Gaurav, Sugriva, Mukesh Kumar, and Pawan Kumar, under Section 151 (arrest to prevent cognizable offence without magisterial order) of the CrPC," the officer added.
