Ten years ago, the Boston Marathon bombing shook the nation to its core as two bombs killed three people and injured hundreds of others. Amid the chaos, the authorities begin searching for the terrorists responsible for the bombs.
With exclusive footage and interviews, American Manhunt depicts how the FBI released the images of the two suspects three days later and triggered a chain reaction that led to an intense manhunt in a neighboring town. With so much turnover at The CW, one of the only constants has been All American, a teen-focused sports drama currently in the middle of its fifth season. The show follows a South L.A. teenager who is recruited to play football at Beverly Hills High, an affluent, privileged high school. Due to the success of All American, it spawned a spinoff, All American: Homecoming, which focuses on two athletes at Bringston University, a historically Black university in Atlanta.
Simone Hicks (Geffri Maya), who first appeared in All American, is an aspiring tennis player who dreams of becoming a pro. Damon Sims (Peyton Alex Smith) is a high school baseball phenom who passes up an opportunity to play in the MLB in favor of playing at Bringston. Homecoming is essentially the college sports version of All American, complete with the drama and relationships fans came to love in the original show.
With Ozark complete, Netflix is looking for its next great crime show. Jason Bateman, Ozark’s star, is the producer behind Florida Man, the latest crime drama from Netflix. Florida Man may not have the critical acclaim of Ozark (Florida Man has a 0% on the Tomatometer), but it finds itself in the top 10 this week.
Edgar Ramírez stars as Mike Valentine, a Philly ex-cop who sets out to find a mobster’s wife in his home state of Florida to settle his gambling debt. However, Mike quickly learns that this quick job is far from easy as it spirals out of control with the more time he spends in Florida. For those who enjoy chaos, Florida Man will pique your interest.
Better Call Saul started as a series that lived in the shadow of Breaking Bad as it attempted to move past Walter White and champion its protagonist, Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk). As Jimmy slowly morphed into Saul Goodman, Better Call Saul became its own entity with moments that were just as good, if not better, than Breaking Bad.
In the sixth and final season, Jimmy fully embraces his new persona as Saul. Jimmy and Kim (Rhea Seehorn) are teaming up to sabotage the Sandpiper case to cash in on a large settlement and, in the process, ruin the life of Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian). In the cartel storyline, Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) is in full panic mode as he tries to get rid of Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton), who survived an assassination attempt at the end of season 5.
Still hanging around the top 10 is Shawn Ryan’s The Night Agent, the new action thriller based on the novel by Matthew Quirk. Gabriel Basso stars as Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent stuck monitoring the Night Action emergency line for the White House. A year prior, Sutherland saved innocent people from a train bombing, but public perception is that was responsible for the explosion.
One night, Sutherland receives a call from Rose Larkin, a former CEO whose aunt and uncle were murdered by unknown assailants. This springs Sutherland into action as he works to protect Rose, and in doing so, uncovers a conspiracy involving a mole in the U.S. government. The Night Agent had a terrific debut in its first few days, with 168.71 million hours viewed since its March 23 premiere. It’s already been renewed for a second season.
One of the frontrunners for the surprise show of the year is Beef, which comes from Dave‘s Lee Sung Jin and A24. Steven Yeun stars as Danny Cho, a failing contractor, and Ali Wong as Amy Lau, a thriving entrepreneur with a picturesque life. Despite their differing backgrounds, both are looking for a purpose in their lives.
One day, Danny and Amy are involved in a road rage incident in Los Angeles. What transpires next is a series of unpredictable events as Danny and Amy try to exact revenge on one another. The feud reaches new heights as the series progresses. Netflix’s latest hit show will keep you guessing until the very last frame.
Keri Russell makes her anticipated return to television to headline The Diplomat, an American political thriller from Debora Cahn, who wrote for The West Wing and Grey’s Anatomy. Russell stars as Ambassador Kate Wyler, an experienced diplomat preparing to become the U.S.’s ambassador to Afghanistan.
However, a last-minute call from the White House changes Kate’s plans as she’s sent to the United Kingdom to become their ambassador. Kate learns that the British government may be approaching a possible conflict with Iran after an explosion on a British carrier. It’s a throwback political thriller that would be a great double feature with The West Wing.
