Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that stress has to be laid on the National Education Policy (NEP) as it has the potential to lay the foundation for Goa’s long-term future. Speaking at the Shiksha Sankalp Programme at Sanquelim on Wednesday, Sawant said that Goa aims to become the first state to implement the NEP from the pre-primary to higher education levels.
As part of the NIPUN (National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy) Bharat Mission, Sawant also launched the Gurukul Vishwa app to register pre-primary schools.
“We are laying the foundation now, but the results will be seen after 20 to 25 years. When the NEP implementation is complete and we see students completing their studies and graduating, they will bring in a big change. And for this to happen, the teachers have a big role to play,” said Sawant.
In his address, Sawant emphasised the role that teachers play in shaping students’ futures. He also said that the government remains totally committed and ready to implement the NEP in the coming academic year.
“We want to become a model state in the implementation of the NEP, starting from the pre-primary level,” he said.
The Gurukul Vishwa app has been developed by the Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd to make it easy for the government to grant permission to pre-primary schools through online registration. Director of education Shailesh Zingade said that currently 627 pre-primary schools and 1,262 anganwadis are registered with the government. He said that through the Gurukul Vishwa app, the government can now register more pre-primary schools that are functioning in Goa.
The chief minister also congratulated all the teachers for creating the creative content for learning and exhorted them to make education happy, fun, and creative.
