RANCHI: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has created over 18 lakes, 20 parks, four Atal clinics, 30 wellness centres and over 25 community buildings for the benefit of its citizens in the last one decade.
RMC’s deputy mayor, Sanjeev Vijayawargiya, whose term is set to end on April 27, on Tuesday, said, “Before the end of the term, elections should have been held, but nothing happened.” On the works during his stint since 2013, he said that 18 ponds were beautified and made encroachment free. “Some of them include Argora pond, Bada Talab, Banas Talab, Divyan Talab, Tartoli Talab, Karamtoli Talab, Tundra Talab etc,” he said, adding that the cremation ground was also beautified.
“More than 70,000 valid connections have been installed in the city during this time too,” he added.
Accepting that the city bus service is still erratic, he said, "The city will operate 300 buses within the next six months. A proposal has been sent to the state government. Over 1,000 vendors have already been relocated to RMC-created markets such as Atal Vendar Market, Madhukam Vegetable Market, and Nagababa Khatal and Distillery fish market."
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, over 3,000 families were relocated to new homes. “More than 30,000 restrooms were constructed for the poor, besides making several civic body related activities online for transparency,” he said.
He, however, rued that projects related to solid waste management, providing pucca houses to landless, facilitating the registration of hostels and banquet halls etc are yet to assume pace.
