Also seeks report over sewage controversy
Vasco : Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas held a meeting on Wednesday morning at his office with the police, health, WRD and transport department officials with respect to a water tanker that was caught transporting sewage. Police have seized two tankers in connection with the incident.
Vas gave time of 8-10 days to all the departments to submit their report on the matter and asked the Verna police to take action against the tanker owner.
The MLA directed Dr. Tejan Lotlikar, health officer to take samples of the liquid from confiscated tankers and send it for testing immediately. He further directed Diogo Gracias, Verna PI to take action based on the report. The WRD was directed to give a list of all the water tankers whose licences have expired and directed RTO official to suspend the licences of two tankers. All the officers present agreed to take immediate action. The MLA further said that no one should play with the health and life of the people.
It may be recalled that a couple of days back, the locals at Zuarinagar brought to the fore a serious matter. A water tanker, which used to supply water to colonies in Sancoale area, was seen refilling sewage water. Two tankers were at the site. The locals alleged that the water tanker would discharge sewage water in the night and supply drinking water during daytime.
A video related to the incident immediately went viral and Verna police confiscated both the tankers. Vas said that “it is a very serious issue. Nobody can play with the heath of the people. It can lead to serious problems and such acts have to be penalised.”
The health department will be testing the sample of water from the tankers kept at Verna police station and will submit a report, based on which action will be taken.
