Baahubali by SS Rajamouli, which captivated fans in the heartland of hindi cinema, marked the beginning of this. However, thanks to globalisation, comparisons between South indian cinema and the hindi film industry are now commonplace. Following the pandemic, Hindi-dubbed releases of kannada and telugu films, like kgf Chapter 2, Pushpa: The Rise, and RRR, have eclipsed bollywood productions in terms of box office revenue.

The South indian sector is expected to increase by a staggering 96% in 2022, according to a research by the Confederation of indian sector (CII) titled "South India: Setting Benchmarks for the Nation in media & Entertainment." tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, and puducherry are the states that make up the tamil Nadu, telugu, kannada, and malayalam cinema industry in South India.

Data by CII
With sales of Rs 2,950 crore, the tamil film industry tops the list. telugu is second with Rs 2,500 crore, followed by kannada with Rs 1,570 crore, and malayalam with Rs 816 crore.

52% of the estimated Rs 15,000 crore in revenue for all of india comes from the southern area.

Out of the 1,691 films that were released in 2022, 916 were in South languages, making up 54% of the total number of releases in the nation.

"The market will fix itself in 2023, and on that repaired base, it is anticipated to rise nicely in 2024. Overall, even though major events like RRR, kgf 2 or Kantara are not anticipated in 2023, the south area is still anticipated to keep its revenues from 2022 in 2023, according to the research.
