MEERUT: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday kick-started the election campaign for the upcoming civic polls in the state from Saharanpur. Appealing to the masses to ensure victory of BJP candidates, Yogi mentioned the recent Prayagraj killings without taking names and said, “Now, there’s no one to even weep for those who were involved in extorting ‘goonda tax’ at one point of time.”
Yogi heli-hopped to several UP towns, including Saharanpur, Shamli and Amroha, and spoke about the “improved law and order situation in the state” and how the state has now been identified for its grand festivals, “not for mafia and disorder”.
In Saharanpur, the CM raised the slogan: “No curfew no danga, UP mein sab changa (no curfew or riots, everything is fine in UP).” He also said, “Mafia, apradhi ho gaye ateet; suraksha, khushaali, rozgaar ka ab bana hai prateek (mafia and criminals are dead and gone; security, happiness and job prospects are symbols of the state now).” In Shamli, he raised the issue of “exodus” and said, “I feel happy when I see the situation in Kairana now. During previous governments, people suffered from hooliganism and exodus. Peace has returned; traders are happy and their daughters are secure.”

Referring to his second innings as CM of UP, Yogi said, “All those who were showing garmi (attitude) during the assembly polls turned thanda (cold) on March 10 last year when our government was re-elected.”

Making an appeal to the people, Yogi said, “We have to decide whether we vote for casteist governments, which were there before 2017, or for a government focused on the welfare of the poor.”
