Kolkata: Schools reopened on Monday after a week-long heat break. Several state-run schools started exams as they have to complete the first summative exams before the summer vacation fro May 2.
Scottish Church Collegiate School reopened with the schedule of remaining exams from classes V to X while Hindu school rescheduled three exams from Monday onwards. Jadavpur Vidyapith and Hare School rescheduled Class XI practical examinations, which were scheduled last week, but they had to postpone it due to the heat break. Scottish Church Collegiate School principal Bibhas Sanyal said, “We started our first summative exams from April 17 but we could take only one exam before closing the school following the government notice. The remaining exams started from Monday as we are in a hurry to complete all the exams this week. One or two days may be required next week to complete the examinations of all the classes.” Hindu School headmaster Subhrajit Dutta said, “We have three exams left and we rescheduled them this week. The students of pre-primary to class V had normal schedule on Monday while the students of classes VI to X took their first summative exams. The practical exams for class XI students will be completed on Tuesday.”
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education issued an order on April 17 for the schools to finish their pending practical exams for class XI before April 29. Hindu School, Hare School and Jadavpur Vidyapith had one or two practical exams left when the schools were closed on April 17 for a week due to the heatwave. They rescheduled remaining exams from Monday onwards.
On the other hand, private schools affiliated to either CISCE or CBSE have begun their academic session from April but they had to suspend their classes following the government order issued last week. Several private schools resumed offline classes with early dispersal while several schools like South Point School, La Martiniere for Girls’ and Boys’ Schools, South Point School, DPS Ruby Park and others got back to their normal schedule.
