Man shoots self dead in Surat

SURAT: A 70-year-old retired property businessman and developer shot himself dead at his residence in Piplod area on Monday.
The deceased used his licensed gun to take his own life. Arjan Maniya, a resident of Mahima Heights, shot himself in the head in his bedroom. He was shifted to a hospital where he was declared dead. Police sent the body for postmortem and a forensic postmortem was done.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that Maniya was suffering from prolonged illness. “Due to illness, he was unable to live a normal life and was depressed. He was on liquid food for the past one and a half years,” said police.
“On Monday, he was sitting with other family members in the apartment hall. Since he could not speak, he signalled to his family members that he was going to the bedroom to take some rest and then took the extreme step,” said a police officer.
