Jilted lover attacks woman, tries to slit throat in public in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A jilted lover was nabbed from Borabanda on Monday evening after he tried to kill a 25-year-old woman in full public view by slitting her throat. His attempt was foiled, thanks to the timely intervention of locals who jumped to save the victim’s life. They later roughed up the accused and handed him over to the cops.

The victim was rushed to hospital and her condition is stable. According to police the accused, 29-year-old Kishore, lives in Swaraj Nagar in Borabanda and works as private security guard. He befriended the woman, a housekeeping worker from Mahbubnagar district who stays in Borabanda’s Rama Rao Nagar, six years ago. The latter is a school drop out.
At 5pm on Monday while the woman was riding her scooter, Kishore followed her on a two-wheeler and intercepted her near Banjara Nagar bus stop in Borabanda. He picked up an argument with her and subsequently pulled her down from the scooter. “He attacked the victim with a knife during which she suffered bleeding injury on her throat. As it was a crowded road, people who witnessed the scene immediately intervened and prevented him from fatally injuring the victim,” said SR Nagar inspector, K Saidulu.
In the videos of the incident captured by locals, a bunch of five-six people are seen encircling the accused — some of them holding sticks — trying to stop him from further attacking the victim, who is sitting on the road and crying in pain. While the accused initially points a knife at the group to threaten them, he later gives in on realising he is outnumbered.
Later, police reached the spot and took Kishore into custody. The victim was rushed to hospital. “She is out of danger. We have registered a case against the offender under Section 307 of the IPC,” the inspector said.
Police found out that the victim had started avoiding the accused about a year ago. The accused suspected that she was planning on marrying another person and decided to kill her, police said.
