A California man has been charged for treating thousands of patients while falsely claiming to be a medical doctor.
Stephan Gevorkian, 44, offered treatments for multiple conditions, including cancer, without having a medical license, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon said this week.
He now faces five felony charges of practicing medicine without a certification.
On Nov. 17, 2022, an undercover California Department of Consumer Affairs operative had a consultation with Mr. Gevorkian.
In that consultation, according to authorities, Mr. Gevorkian failed to accurately address hormonal abnormalities that could have indicated a serious medical condition.
His Pathways Medical clinic conducts blood tests, offers advice on treatments and provides some of those treatments.
Mr. Gevorkian’s legal team called the accusations unproven.
“It’s important to acknowledge that what is thought to be known or understood early on is not always the case in the end. Mr. Gevorkian is complying with all orders of the court and looks forward to vigorously defending himself against these allegations,” attorney Justin Sterling told McClatchy News.
In the interim, Mr. Gascon’s office is asking those who may have been treated by Mr. Gevorkian to come forward; the consumer protection hotline offered is 213/257-2465.
