LUCKNOW: The Izzatnagar division of northeastern railways is saving up to Rs 34 lakh annually on its power consumption with its 780 kWp solar panel systems installed across various buildings and railway stations under its jurisdiction.
Pumped-up with the success, the division is now planning to install additional solar panels with a peak power of 955 kWp to become more eco-friendly.
According to railways, the DRM office of Izzatnagar is powered by 300 kWp rooftop solar panels, while the mechanical workshop is illuminated by installed solar panels of 200 kWp.
Coaching depot of Lalkuan has solar panels with a peak power of 50 kWp, while stations like Farrukhabad, Kanshipur, Bajpur has 10 kWp solar panel systems each.
While Kasganj railway station has 65 kWp solar panels, the Hathras City railway station is powered by 10 kWp solar panels.
The division has also installed one HP of solar pumps each at Attamata-Deoraniya section, Farrukhabad-Shamsabad section and on Ujhani-Bitroi section to provide clean water in remote locations for railway staff and general public.
Further, the division has also installed 95 solar lights.
NER officials said that 17 railway stations of Izzatnagar division have been selected under the Amrit Bharat station scheme including Kathgodam, Pilibhit, Tanakpur, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Gursahaiganj, Kannauj, Hathras City, Badayun, Kichha, Bahedi, Kashipur, Lalkuan, Ramnagar, Ujhani, Bareilly City and Izzatnagar where additional solar panels with a peak power of 955 kWp will be installed.
