The cyber cell of the Shivajinagar police station in Pune has traced 51 lost cell phones worth Rs 9.5 lakh in different states and returned them to their respective owners.
A press release by the Pune city police on Monday stated that the Shivajinagar police station prepared data on cell phones lost in its jurisdiction. The cyber cell of the police station conducted a technical investigation and found that many of these cell phones were active in Gujrat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, Bihar, Punjab and Maharashtra.
Aadesh Chalwadi of the cyber cell, who speaks Hindi, English, Marathi, Kannada and Telgu, played a key role by communicating to the mobile phone users in their native languages, the police said.
The police team, headed by assistant inspector Bajirao Naik, recovered the 51 stolen phones in the last one month.
Senior police inspector Arvind Mane said citizens should immediately file online complaints about their lost cell phones on the Pune city police website or the government’s Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.
