Geralt finally knows fear in The Witcher season 3 teaser

In the first season of The Witcher, a family was the farthest thing from the mind of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill). As one of the top monster hunters on the continent, Geralt simply assumed that he would always be alone. And yet into Geralt’s life came two women who changed everything for him. The sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) inflamed a passion in Geralt’s heart that he never knew he had. And young Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) became a surrogate daughter to Geralt as he sought to protect her from danger. Now, in the first teaser trailer for The Witcher season 3, this makeshift family is finally united. And yet the normally brave Geralt has let fear into his heart.

What could possibly make Geralt afraid? Keeping Yennefer and Ciri safe is a full-time gig, even if both women are gifted with magical power. So for now, we can only speculate that it’s a specific threat that makes Geralt feel fear. Perhaps it’s something, or someone, that not even he can beat in battle.

Netflix has also released an official synopsis for season 3, which sheds some light on the current situation.

“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

In a departure from previous seasons, Netflix is splitting The Witcher season 3 into two volumes. The first volume will consist of five episodes and premiere on June 29. The remaining three episodes are being held for volume 2, which will arrive on July 27.

Notorious Warhammer fan Henry Cavill is bringing the Warhammer Cinematic Universe to life with a Warhammer movie at Amazon. But what exactly is Warhammer? Well, to keep things simple, it's a tabletop miniature game. As Cavill so eloquently explained on Graham Norton, Warhammer is about putting miniature models in little armies and fighting against someone else's armies. There are two properties with the name Warhammer -- Warhammer, focusing on high fantasy, and Warhammer 40,000, focusing on science fiction. It's this last one that Cavill will help bring into live-action. The plot centers on humanity living in the gloomy 42nd millennium in a perpetual state of war against hostile alien races and supernatural powers.

Despite Henry Cavill's impending exit from The Witcher, the fantasy series remains one of Netflix's flagship shows. Fortunately for fans, that means we don't have to wait until next summer to see something new. Next month, The Witcher: Blood Origin will debut as a four-episode prequel series that reveals how the first Witcher was created and why. And in the new teaser trailer for this miniseries event, it's both the end of an era and the beginning of something new.

Why Henry Cavill is better as the Witcher than Superman

Henry Cavill sure loves getting people talking. This week, Cavill returned alongside Millie Bobbie Brown in the safe and charming Enola Holmes 2, reprising his role as a hulking and slightly less capable Sherlock Holmes. More importantly, the actor donned the red and blue again with a cameo appearance at the end of Black Adam. Cavill's seconds on screen sent fans into a frenzy, and his many, many, many statements about Superman's long-awaited return made it clear his new take on the Last Son of Krypton would be far removed from the stoic man-god he played in previous DCEU entries.

However, Cavill's biggest news came over the weekend, with a bombshell report about his exit from Netflix's hit The Witcher. Shortly after the show's Twitter account posted the news, Cavill took to Instagram to make a vague statement about his departure. The news shocked the business, with few, if any, outlets anticipating the announcement, not to mention Cavill's rabid fandom, who immediately started pointing fingers while scrambling for an explanation.
