Rajkot: Investigation into the Rs one crore extortion racket involving arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) youth wing leader, Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, revealed that the student activist had got complete information about the dummy candidates racket from one of the masterminds Baldev Rathod and another person who is yet to be identified.
“Jadeja got a whiff of the scandal flourishing in Bhavnagar. However, he did not have any explosive information to make public. He contacted Rathod and another person and give them some money as a tip. Rathod then revealed and explained to him about the well-oiled scam,” said a source privy to the investigation.
Thus, Rathod and the other person became his informers. In all, six people including Jadeja have been booked for allegedly extorting Rs one crore from mastermind Prakas alias PK Dave and co-accused Pradip Baraiya to not reveal their names in the press conference on April 5.
On Monday, police recovered Rs 38 lakh out of the Rs one crore from Jadeja's brother-in-law Kanbha Gohil who was arrested from Surat. Police have also recovered Rs five lakh each from co-accused Bipin Trivedi and Ghanshaym Ladhva who allegedly took the cash on Jadeja's behalf.
The cash of Rs 38 lakh was found in a bag from a house in Shantinath Park in the city. It was hidden in the house of Jeet Mandaviya, who is a friend of Jadeja's second brother-in-law Shivubha, who is yet to be arrested.
