Samajwadi Party MLA from Malhani in Jaunpur district Lucky Yadav has landed in trouble after allegedly taking PWD engineer and contractor hostage on Sunday evening.
On Monday, ASP rural Jaunpur S K Singh said that police force reached the spot on being alerted that PWD engineers and contractor had been held hostage at the address of MLA Malhani on Sunday. A magistrate was also present there, he said, adding, PWD engineer and the contractor were rescued. A complaint has been received that a scuffle had taken place and officials were roughed up. He said an impartial probe is being ensured in the episode and action would be initiated on the basis of its findings.
Officials said that PWD is constructing drains by removing roadside encroachment on the Olandganj-TD College road under the limits of Kotwali police station. The residence of Malhani MLA Lucky Yadav, son of former minister late Parasnath Yadav, is located along this road. Two junior engineers and the contractor were busy taking stock of the work on Sunday and were noticed by the MLA on CCTV camera. They were called inside.
They alleged that on reaching inside the MLA’s home they were held hostage. One of JEs reported the matter to district officials on phone after which city magistrate Devendra Singh and a police force reached the spot. Officials said when they asked the MLA to release the JEs and contractor, he refused to comply. Officials alleged that even when police tried to take the JEs and contractor with them, the MLA’s supporters entered into a scuffle with them.
Meanwhile, the SP MLA told media that four persons entered his house and when they were noticed on CCTV his security personnel tried to stop them. One of them fled the scene while three were caught, he claimed, adding that he reported the matter to senior police officials. He said that when police reached his home the policemen misbehaved with him. He said he will report the matter to his party chief and raise the issue in the assembly. He said a delegation of the party, led by the district unit chief and two MLAs met district officials on Monday and apprised them of details of the incident.
