NASHIK: FOur people, including a woman, booked for voluntarily causing hurt have now been booked for murder after the man they had assaulted died in civil hospital on Sunday.
The 30-year-old deceased has been identified as Nitin Jadhav, a native of Nandgaon. He was beaten up by the accused in Trimurti Chowk area of Cidco on April 8.
"In the first week of April Jadhav had found a cellphone that belonged to a Cidco resident. On the day of the incident, the owner of the cellphone had called Jadhav to the Trimurti Chowk area for returning the phone," a police officer said.
"During their conversations before the meeting, Jadhav had apparently used some insulting words for the cellphone owner's wife. Hence, at the time of their meeting Jadhav was badly assaulted by the woman, her husband and two other associates," the officer added.
Due to the serious nature of the injuries Jadhav had suffered, he was admitted to the Nashik civil hospital. On the complaint of Jadhav's father, the Ambad police had then registered an FIR against the four accused for offence punishable under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The Ambad police had also arrested the cellphone owner and one of his associates and they are currently in judicial custody. Police inspector (crime) Srikant Nimbalkar of the Ambad police station said, an additional charge of murder that is punishable under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC will be imposed against the accused.
"The woman and the fourth suspect had applied for anticipatory bail. But their plea has been rejected and they would soon be arrested," Nimbalkar said.
Police sub-inspector Sunil Bidkar, who was the investigation officer, said Nitin worked in a restaurant.
