Summer camp arranged for children of police personnel
Mysuru: Chamarajanagar District Police have organised a ten-day summer camp for children of police staff at the district armed police grounds in Chamarajanagar to engage them during the summer holidays.Superintendent of police Padmini Sahoo told STOI that the department has organised camps for the children of department personnel to get them involved in activities. The department has received good response both from the family members of personnel and outsiders.
Such camps appear as a boon for the holistic development of department personnel as they cannot focus much on their personal duties due to poll duty and other reasons. The department had planned to conduct the camp after the elections are over but started the camp earlier as most of the schools reopen by the time the elections process is over, the officer stated.
“The department should continue to conduct such camps for children every year as it helps them in their personality development and also helps to develop their future career skills,” said Uma, mother of a participating child. The camp will conclude on April 26. Children between four and fourteen years are taking part in the camp.
The initiative is said to be the first-of- its-kind organised by the police department.
Participants are being taught about various issues like the conservation of the environment, benefits of afforestation activities, tree plantation, magic shows, film screenings, science lab visits, dance classes and other events by subject experts.More than 50 students are participating in interactive indoor activities — painting, drawing, slogan writing, and learning theatre activities. They are also taught about policing methods, rights, and duties of citizens.
