Ludhiana: Ludhiana rural police on Sunday morning arrested a woman for the murder of her husband in Moti Bagh area of Agwar Gujjran in Jagraon.
The couple — Gurmeet Kaur and her husband Prakash Singh Soni — had a fight on Saturday night. Police officials said Soni, who had a fruit vend near Kamal chowk, had married the accused 18 years back and had a 16-year-old daughter.
Cops said as Soni used abusive language against his wife and daughter, Gurmeet had gone to her aunt’s place for around a month. On Saturday, area residents heard the couple fighting.
Police officials said apparently after the fight, the accused strangulated her husband to death. Soni’s brother Sukhwinder Singh got to know about his death around 8am. After noticing injury marks on Soni’s neck, Sukhwinder raised an alarm and informed the police.
Jagraon city police shifted the body to a government hospital for the postmortem.
DSP Satwinder Singh Virk said on questioning her, Gurmeet confessed about her crime. He said there seemed to be marks on the neck of the deceased.
Police have registered a murder case against the accused.
Police officials said the accused told cops that Soni would often fight with her and use bad words for her daughter as well because of which she was living at her relative’s place. They added that there are two suspects in the case who will be questioned as more than one person seems to be involved in the crime.
Cops said though Soni used to drink alcohol, he was not drunk on Saturday evening according to area residents.
Parveen Kaur, daughter of the deceased, said her parents had been fighting with each other for a long time.
