Google has been using Samsung’s camera sensors, display panels, modems, and other electronic components since the launch of the Pixel 6 series. And it will continue to do so with its next-generation Pixel series smartphones. In fact, the company will upgrade to Samsung’s biggest camera sensor yet.

According to tipster Ice Universe, Google will equip the Pixel 8 Pro smartphone with the ISOCELL GN2 camera sensor. It is Samsung’s biggest camera sensor yet and was launched two years ago. The ISOCELL GN2 is a 1/1.12-inch camera sensor with a 50MP resolution. Almost all smartphone brands except Samsung are moving closer to a 1-inch camera sensor on their flagship smartphones.

Pixel 8 Pro uses a bigger camera sensor than Galaxy S23 Ultra

The ISOCELL GN2 features 1.4μm pixels, and with a 4-in-1 pixel binning process, its pixel size becomes 2.8μm. In comparison, the 200MP ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor used in the Galaxy S23 Ultra features 2.4μm pixels after 16-in-1 pixel binning. So, the ISOCELL GN2 theoretically features better performance in low-light conditions. The ISOCELL GN2 can also churn out 100MP images using the remosaic algorithm.

Samsung’s biggest camera sensor can also record 8K videos at 30fps, 4K videos at 120fps, and Full HD videos at 480fps. The ISOCELL GN2 also features Dual Pixel Pro autofocus for quick, reliable, and accurate focusing. It also features Staggered HDR, which is 24% less power-hungry than regular HDR and can retain details in highlights and shadows.
