Atiq murder accused sent back to P’garh jail
Prayagraj: The three accused in the murder case of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf – Lavlesh Tiwari, Mohit Singh alias Shani, and Arun Maurya – were sent back to Pratapgarh jail after their police custody remand ended on Sunday.
On April 19, the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of Prayagraj had given police custody to the special investigation team (SIT) for four days.
In its direction, the CJM court had made it clear that after completion of four days of police custody, they would be not be produced before the court again and would be sent to Pratapgarh jail, where they were already lodged. The SIT questioned the trio to collect all possible evidence related to the killing of Atiq and Ashraf.
The trio had gunned down Ahmed brothers on Saturday night when they were being taken to Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj for medical examination as a mandatory legal requirement.
The three assailants, posing as journalists, shot Atiq and Ashraf from point blank range in full camera view in the presence of policemen. The shooters immediately surrendered and were arrested by the police.
