Dhanbad: The Dhanbad Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Clean Air, Jharkhand has installed an artificial 'breathing lungs billboard' at City Centre near Gandhi Chowk to raise awareness on air
pollution to mark the beginning of the 45-day Paryavaran Utsav.
Speaking about the initiative, Dhanbad town commissioner Satyendra Kumar said, “The billboard is a first-of-its-kind initiative to generate public awareness on air pollution. It is designed uniquely to depict the human lungs, retrofitted with HEPA filters and a fan that mimics breathing to visually demonstrate the impact of air pollution.”
It is also fitted with a digital air quality monitor to record and display the real-time air quality index. At the beginning of the installation, the colour of the lungs is kept white (symbolizing healthy lungs) which over a period of a few days will change from grey to brown to black signifying the health impacts of air pollution.
“We are committed to ensure clean air in the city and are taking a proactive approach in adopting innovative clean solutions to reduce the pollution load,” Kumar said while inaugurating the billboard.
