OPINION:
It has been understood for many millennia that the human race consists of males and females. The Bible states that God made man and woman. It is only now that I am learning that identifying the sexes is not as unambiguous as one would think. Luckily, there are power brokers, leaders and influential politicians to help me sort things out.
It seems to have started with a justice of the highest court in the land, where she (I guess) revealed that the definition of a woman is, well, complicated. A legislator from New York, along with her compatriots, now informs us that men can have babies and tampons should be available everywhere. Our secretary of transportation, along with a Connecticut representative, however, argues that there is, indeed, a difference between the sexes; they’re promoting “female” crash-test dummies.
The same secretary of transportation has also enlightened me about the scourge of racism. It so happens that racism is not only confined to the attitudes of human beings; roads can be racist also. The problem is so bad that he is launching a $1 billion pilot program to build racial equity in American’s roads. I am ashamed to admit that I probably rode my bike on some racist lane, back street or alley in my youth. Who would have thought?
Being woke is so challenging. I am confused and I have so much to learn. Right now, it seems like I am in a Monty Python movie or participating in an Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First” routine.
