PUNE: The Met department has forecast light rainfall with thunder and lightning in the city till April 28, with temperatures likely to remain between 36° Celsius and 38° Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said the moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea and a low-pressure system between the Vidarbha region and South Tamil Nadu are influencing the weather conditions in Maharashtra.
"Due to these weather conditions, the Madhya Maharashtra region, which includes Pune and Vidarbha, is expected to get rainfall till April 28," said a senior IMD Pune official.
Despite the relief brought by the rains and hail, most parts of the city experienced scorching temperatures, with the maximum temperature inching close to 40° Celsius during the morning and afternoon hours.
On April 19, Shivajinagar recorded 40° Celsius, while Lohegaon recorded 40.7° Celsius. However, for the last few days, the city's day temperatures have remained normal or below normal due to overcast conditions in the afternoon hours.
On Sunday, the Shivajinagar and Lohegaon observatories recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1° Celsius and 36.4° Celsius, which was below normal by 2.1° Celsius and 1.6° Celsius, respectively. Shivajinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 18.2° Celsius, while Lohegaon recorded 19.1° Celsius.
"The possible overcast conditions and very light rain in isolated areas will keep the day temperatures below the normal range," added the Met official.
The Marathwada and Vidarbha regions, too, reported a drastic fall in the maximum temperatures, owing to the weather conditions.
All three weather stations - Aurangabad, Parbani and Beed - reported below-normal day temperatures. Aurangabad recorded 36.2° Celsius, Parbani was at 36.4° Celsius and Beed recorded 37° Celsius, which were below normal by 3° Celsius, 4.6° Celsius and 2.5° Celsius, respectively.
Similarly, all weather stations, including Chandrapur and Bramhpuri in the Vidarbha region, recorded below-normal day temperatures due to rare weather conditions in the region, said the Met official.
Nagpur sizzled at 35.3° Celsius, below normal by 6.2° Celsius. Wardha and Yavatmal recorded 37° Celsius and 36.5° Celsius, which were below normal by 4.7° Celsius and 4.4° Celsius, respectively.
