10-fold rise in Covid-19 cases in West Bengal in 3 weeks
Active Covid cases in Bengal have swelled by over 10 times in the past three weeks, and three persons succumbed during Covid treatment in Kolkata on Saturday and Sunday, taking the death toll to eight in the city this month. From only 110 cases on April 1, the count has now crossed 1,000. On Sunday, the state had 1,301 active cases with 155 fresh cases being reported in the past 24 hours. The weekly positivity rate in Kolkata now stands at a high 22%, which was a little above 10% even a week ago. According to sources, only 69 out of the 1,301 cases are under hospital care.

Police investigation revealed the technician and his alleged killers regularly fought as they faced difficulties in parking three motorbikes at the apartment’s small parking lot.Inadequate parking spaces, whether in public or private areas, is an issue that has the potential to snowball into something ugly, say police. From about 40 lakh in 2010, the number of vehicles in the city has gone up to more than 1 crore now, officials said, thereby compounding the crisis.
509 new Covid cases in Tamil Nadu; 102 in Chennai
Fresh cases in Tamil Nadu dipped to 509 on Sunday from 519 a day earlier. The active cases also saw a marginal decrease to 3,671 compared to 3,676 the previous day.The state hea lth department said one Covid patient passed away on Sunday. The 66-year-old man from Pudukkottai was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government and Medical College Hospital in Chennai with breathing difficulties on Saturday.
Man, 42, murdered at funeral event in Chennai
A 42-year-old man attacked at the funeral ceremony of a history sheeter at Old Washermenpet on Saturday died of his injuries on Sunday morning.The deceased has been identified as R ajasekar of Thiruvottiyur. Police said he had gone to the funeral of history sheeter Kumar alias Karuppu Kumar, who was murdered for revenge on Friday. Kumar had several cases against him, including a murder case. He was eliminated to exact revenge for the murder of another history sheeter, Venkata in 2013. Venkata's son Akash, who learnt of Kumar's release from jail, plotted his murder.
