Man murders mother; attempts to commit suicide in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 30-year-old man killed his mother by setting her on fire at their house and later tried to commit suicide by hanging himself at Kadakkavoor on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified by police as Janani (62), of Poochedivila Veedu near Nilakkamukku at Vakkom.
Her son Vishnu tried to commit suicide after murdering her by hanging himself from a tree. But the lungi which he used to hang himself tore apart and he fell down. He has sustained fractures on ribs and neck and is currently undergoing treatment at Medical College Hospital. Police said Vishnu was a drug addict and an accused in several cases. He used to quarrel with Janani for money and for a share of ancestral property. On Sunday two quarrelled and he set his mother ablaze. TNN
