Assam cops in Bengaluru, serve notice on IYC chief
GUWAHATI/ BENGALURU:Assam Police on Sunday visited the Bengaluru residence of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) chief Srinivas BV and slapped a notice on him, asking him to appear before it in Guwahati on May 2 for questioning in connection with a case filed against him by expelled Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee president Angkita Dutta, alleging harassment by the former for the last six months. Dutta was expelled by the AICC on Saturday (April 22) for “anti-party activities” after she went public and filed an FIR against Srinivas.
Joint commissioner (in charge) of Guwahati police Thube Prateek Vijay Kumar, who led the five-member team to Bengaluru, said: “We went to Srinivas’s house. As no one was present in the house, we pasted the notice on his door. We are also sending the notice to his native place.” The notice says during investigation, “reasonable grounds” have been found to question Srinivas in the case.
The notice says, “Failure to attend/comply with the terms of this notice can render you liable for arrest.”
Congress MP Randeep Surjewala said the “turncoat CM of Assam has now become infamous for these antics to stay in news”. Reacting Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “The Assam Police is acting in accordance with the law ...It is unfair to blame me for the lack of a safe environment within the Congress party for female workers.”
