Greater Noida streets filled with garbage, people resort to burning it

GREATER NOIDA: Garbage was again set on fire on a vacant plot behind Jagat Farm Market in Greater Noida Sector Delta 3 over the weekend, thus polluting the air.
"Some unidentified persons set the garbage on fire, thus flouting the NGT rules and adding to the already polluted air. Earlier too, some people set the garbage on fire in this vacant plot," said a resident, Ashok Kumar Pawar.
Residents also complained of overgrown shrubs and plants in vacant plots in Sector Delta 3 which have become dens for reptiles.
"A forest-like situation has emerged on all the streets of the sector and there is a risk of snakes and scorpions entering our homes. Despite informing the contractor, the problem has not been resolved," added Pawar.
Apart from this, residents complained of the poor condition of Jagat Farm Market with all-around filth. "The market is in dire need of maintenance and sanitation. Garbage dumps can be seen at various spots. We have complained about the issue to the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), but no attention is being paid. What’s the use of putting up boards with contact numbers of contractors when they do not address the issue?" asked Harinder Bhati, a resident of Sector Beta 1, on Sunday.
A similar complaint of a lack of sanitation was made from Sector Beta 2. "Mounds of garbage can be found near H-324 and the service road near gate number 3. Despite repeated complaints, no one tends to the problem," added Bhati.
When contacted, Utsav Niranjan, senior manager at the public health department of GNIDA, told TOI that the staff has been instructed to address the sanitation issue.
"Also, we have imposed a penalty on the concerned contractor for the waste-burning incidents near Jagat Farm Market," he added.
