Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 119.35 points up at 17743.4 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Pashupati Cotspin, Gangotri Text, Omkar Speciality, BEML Land Assets and Parin Furniture, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 35 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 15 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, HDFC Life, Tata Consumer, Wipro, Titan Company and ICICI Bank were among top gainers during the day, while Apollo Hospital, Hero MotoCorp, M&M, Tech Mahindra and UltraTech Cem. ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 401.04 points up at 60056.1.
Traders piled up positions in Telecommunications, Term Lending Institutions, Gems and Jewellery, Tea / Coffee and Holding Company sectors, while selling was witnessed in Media & Entertainment, IT Enabled Services, Pesticides/Agro Chemicals, Industrial Consumables and Pharmaceuticals sectors during the day.
