Covid: 509 new cases in Tamil Nadu; 102 in Chennai

CHENNAI: Fresh cases in Tamil Nadu dipped to 509 on Sunday from 519 a day earlier. The active cases also saw a marginal decrease to 3,671 compared to 3,676 the previous day.
The state health department said one Covid patient passed away on Sunday.The 66-year-old man from Pudukkottai was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government and Medical College Hospital in Chennai with breathing difficulties on Saturday.
Barring Tirupattur and Ramanathapuram, all other districts reported new cases. There were 102 new cases in Chennai followed by 68 in Coimbatore, 34 in Chengalpet, 30 in Salem, 36 in Tiruppur, 27 in Kanyakumari and 22 in Tiruvallur. Twelve districts reported cases in two digits and 23 others reported cases in single digits. Two patients from Sri Lanka tested positive for the infection at the airport.
Samples were drawn from around 7000 people and the state average of daily positivity rate fell to 7.5 on Sunday.
