BATHINDA: Before being
arrested from outside Gurdwara Sant Khalsa at Rode village in Moga district on Sunday morning, 'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh had met his militant leader late Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale's nephew Jasbir Singh Rode - a former Akal Takht jathedar - at this shrine dedicated to Bhindranwale at his birthplace.
Rode said, later, that being aware of police presence in the village since Saturday midnight, he had reached the gurdwara at 4am on Sunday,
talked with Amritpal, and prepared him for surrender by dressing him up in the robe of baptised Sikhs.
Rode also delivered a brief a
ddress in the gurdwara before Amritpal was arrested around 7am.
Rode, who had also attended the dastarbandi of Amritpal Singh about seven months ago, claimed that police had informed him about the arrest and IG (intelligence) had reached the village along with Ajnala senior superintendent of police to take Amritpal into custody.
Rode claimed that Amritpal shared with him that he had decided to surrender after 35 days of being on the run to prevent more Sikh youths from being arrested.
