A man arrested by the Ahmednagar police in Maharashtra in connection with an Arms Act case escaped from custody Sunday while he was under treatment at Pune’s Sassoon Hospital, officers said.
The police have identified the accused as Balu alias Chakradhar Godse, 30, of Ahmednagar’s Shrigonda. A first information report (FIR) in this regard was lodged by Constable Prakash Mandge at Bundgarden police station.
According to the FIR, Godse was arrested recently in a case lodged at Shrigonda police station. He was admitted to ward number 26 of Sassoon Hospital on April 19 for treatment of a mental condition. Around 7.30 pm on April 22, when a policeman accompanying him went to the washroom, Godse allegedly released himself from his handcuffs and escaped.
The police have launched a search for the accused. He has been booked under section 224 of the Indian Penal Code.
