Four men who posed as cops held in kidnap case
Coimbatore: The Kattoor police have arrested four men who impersonated as cops and kidnapped a realtor from Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district last week and snatched 30 sovereigns of gold ornaments from him. Police made the arrests in the past two days and recovered 15.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments.
Police identified the arrested men as J Sibin, 40, from Alappuzha, N Asith Mohammed, 27, from Idukki district in Kerala, J Gibson, 48, from SIHS Colony in the city and R Kumar, 42, a mason from Srinivasapuram in Thanjavur district.
Police said the four men, along with six others, impersonated as police personnel from Kerala and Tamil Nadu and kidnapped S Sanjeev, 42, a native of Pavakkal village near Uthangarai, around 8.30am on April 10. They told him that they were detaining him in connection with several cheating cases lodged against him.
“They took him in his own car to Namakkal and Karur districts on the pretext of conducting inquiry and took away the ornaments he was wearing. He was then taken to a lodge at Gandhipuram. The gang demanded 30 lakh from Sanjeev to let him off. Since he was not able to give the money, the gang members let him go on April 12,” said a police officer.
Subsequently, Sanjeev lodged a complaint with police, who registered a case against the gang members under sections 170, 364 (A), 368 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code.
The officer said the search is on for the other six men.
