Mangaluru: Despite an awareness campaign being carried out by railway authorities, untoward incidents are being reported at various locations in the Palakkad division. The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Palakkad division, registered 2,056 cases against trespassing in 2021, and 2,120 cases in 2022. In the current year, up to March 2023, 831 cases have been registered, and a fine of Rs 2.2 lakh has been collected from the offenders.
As the cases of trespassing on railway tracks are on the rise, the number of deaths and people getting injured are increasing. Moreover, such incidents delay train services, and take a toll on the productive time of passengers. RPF conducts drives on a regular basis, to prevent trespassing incidents, which is an offence under Section 147 of the Railways Act.
