54 tests positive for Covid in Meerut

MEERUT: Fifty-four new Covid-19 cases were reported in Meerut on Friday, taking active cases to 192.
Four of them have been admitted to a health facility and the rest are in home quarantine. One death has been reported in the district so far.
Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) Medical College conducted a mock drill and its oxygen preparedness, said Dr VD Pandey, LLRM spokesperson.
Principal, RC Gupta, said, "The Covid ward has been resumed with 20 beds and can increase to 1,430 beds if required. Following government directives, five oxygen supply sources are being kept, including two liquid medical oxygen plants, two oxygen generation plants and an oxygen cylinder plant." Gupta added that this Covid variant is not so harmful as it is not very infectious and can be treated with prescribed medicines and home isolation.
Dr Ashok Taliyan, divisional surveillance officer, told TOI on Saturday: "At least 3,304 beds are available at different levels of hospitals in the district; four beds have been occupied by Covid patients. All the districts in Meerut division have sufficient medical facilities."
According to the Covid status report from January 2022 to March 2023, a total of 921,988 samples were tested, of which 20,231 were found positive, while the recovery rate was 99.8% and 33 deaths were reported in Meerut.
