Ludhiana: City residents offered special namaz in mosques on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the month of Ramadan on Saturday. People dressed in their best had a great time partaking in feasts and exchanging gifts.
The belief is that fasting in Ramadan month also enables people to help the poor. The festival is also supposed to be celebrated by letting go of grudges and embracing people.
Abdul Satar, a superintendent in MC Ludhiana said, “There is one rule for all Muslims that if they have around Rs 20 lakh or gold equal to this value then 2.5% share of the amount should be used for welfare of the poor.” He said they helped poor relatives and other neighbours who did not have financial resources. The celebrations seem especially sweet after the hard fasting for a month, he added.
New Shivpuri resident Muhammad Mustkeem said, “For the entire month we observed fast and prayed to Allah for welfare of all. Then we took a pledge to help poor people who do not have enough resources. First, we have to help our relatives, then our neighbours and then those in nearby areas. We help the poor without a thought to their cast or religion.”
After offering namaz at Jama Masjid in Field Ganj, Shahi Imam, Punjab, Maulana Muhammad Usman Ludhianvi said, “Eid is celebrated to overcome all grudges and differences. In India, people from all communities Hindu, Muslim Sikh and Christian are living in harmony and those who are trying to harm this bonding will be taught a lesson.” He said India is a bouquet of all communities and it should remain so.
In the morning, special namaz was offered at city mosques in Field Ganj, Haibowal, Civil Lines, Tajpur Road, Tibba Road etc.
