JAIPUR: The Congress on Saturday appointed two new secretaries for
Rajasthan where assembly polls are due later this year.
The new AICC secretaries - Amrita Dhawan and Virender Singh Rathore - will be attached to Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, the AICC general secretary in-charge of Rajasthan, a statement issued by the party said.
The party appointed Rathore after relieving him from his current responsibilities in Gujarat.
The party has relieved Rajasthan's existing secretary Tarun Kumar from his responsibilities.
Work in Cong will gather speed, says Dotasra Qazi Muhammad Nizamuddin, a three-term MLA from Uttarakhand, already attached to the AICC general secretary, will continue to be in the post.
PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra said, "The appointments will speed up the work of the organisation under the guidance of Randhawa. It will be an advantage and the experienced leaders will be an asset to the party at the block and mandal levels."
The Congress state unit has also started mobilising people at the booth level.
Dotasra said the party will soon complete the task of giving positions to 9 lakh workers in the organisation, which will help the party to return to power in Rajasthan by defeating the BJP. The PCC chief claimed, "The entire exercise to appoint 9 lakh party workers at the different organisational positions will be completed within 15 days."
For the first time in this tenure, the party will form committees at the mandal, block, gram panchayat and booth levels and party workers will be given responsibility according to the election strategy.
After forming executive committees in 2,200 mandals, 400 blocks, 11,283 gram panchayats, many party workers will be appointed for president posts.
Party sources, however, alleged that the state Congress woke up from slumber after the BJP intensified its campaign.
