Prayers and feasts across JSR as the faithful celebrates Eid
Jamshedpur: Eid-ul-Fitr was observed with religious fervour and gaiety in the Steel City on Saturday. The faithfuls in large numbers flocked at the 70-odd mosques across the city to offer namaz (special prayers) since early hours.
Devotees offered prayers at designated Eid-gah ground in Jugsalai, Telco, Golmuri, Mango, Bistupur and Sakchi.
Clerics at the mosques appealed for celebrating the festival with peace and brotherhood. "Fostering brotherhood and serving underprivileged should be the motto of the faithfuls. Observe the festival with peace and affection, the clerics appealed in their message," noted 56-year-old Md Feroz who prayered at Dhatkidih mosque.
After prayers, Muslims hugged each other and exchanged festive greetings. "This year the crowd is bigger than that in the previous three years," said 40-year-old Kafiluddin, a coir vendor of Sakchi.
Milk booths, sevai shops, dry fruits stores, chicken and mutton shops witnessed rush of the festive crowd.
"Milk was high on demand yesterday too as several people bought it a day before and stored at home," Kamal Mukhi who owns a milk booth in Dhatkidih said.
Several Muslim-populated colonies in the city were decked up with welcome gates, and, greeting banners.
The district administration laid out elaborate security measures to ensure peace.
